Who We Are at Ruby Mae House
Our History
Founded in 2021, Ruby Mae House's mission is to support youth without a home from age 16-22 years. Ruby Mae house's name comes from the founder's Dr. Tina Arrington's grandmother Ruby Frances Wiseman and her great Aunt Lilie Mae Ward, who both cared for various unhoused youth in the community for decades. To continue the kindness of these two women, Ruby Mae House was formed by Dr. Arrington, LPC a licensed therapist and educator partnered with G. Marie Desselle, RN and Chris Vera.
We provide a safe and authentic counseling and advising for all to thrive regardless of race, ethnicity, sex or gender. Supported by a group of volunteers who recognized the need for a holistic environment for youth, our goal is to provide individualized support for all coupled with resources to ensure self-sufficiency in the Nation's Capital.

Our Mission
Ruby Mae House mission is to ensure every youth without housing has a safe space to be their authentic self and receive support to thrive in this world. Most recently, we assisted countless youth secure stable housing and regain their independence. We believe in educating our youth and preparing them for post-secondary opportunities to build their financial stability yet, no one can thrive when their basic needs are unmet.
We are proud of the impact we have made in our community and are committed to continuing our work until everyone has a safe and comfortable place to call home.
